Hi Mike,

An interesting read, as I have also just updated by own Lightroom Workflow article:

Lightroom workflow

We seem to have broadly similar approaches, but with a few differences.

The vast majority of my work is Landscape, so I tend to arrange my folder geographically, rather than by date and I use the colour labels in Lightroom to show which stage of my workflow pictures are at - often I don't get around to processing everything in one go, so this is useful when I load lightroom back up later on.

A couple of questions for you.....

1. Do you print direct from Lightroom, or send your exported TIFFs away for printing? I print direct from Lightroom now, and so don't tend to ever export TIFFs from Lightroom. Web files get exported as JPG, much like yourself.

2. How much use do you make of collections? I mainly use them to manage the galleries on my site, but interested to hear how others use them.

Cheers,

1. Printing I do from Photoshop from TIFFs and I get the calibration from a printing house for thier printers if I can. I have access to a Epson 7800 in my research lab so I occasionally print from there (with photoshop). for the web photos, I use a few different presents for outputting, I find it is much easier that wway, although I really don't like how sometimes my photos are much darker after I export them, its likely just becasue of my eyes.

2. Collections is something that I haven't really used. I havea  collection for my portfolio, and for random things as I go along somtimes, but i usually have it by folder, and using the stars (which i really like how they go over to windows explorer) i have the filter set to only diplay my best if i want to find them.

i would like yo use collections more, but I'm not producing enough multi-shoot collections to make a lot of use for them. thats wehre i see them being usefull though, when i want to group photos from multiple sessions.

how has the folder system worked out for you? I feel like i might loose things that ways, as my landscape folder would have 10K+ photos in it i imagine.... do you use keywording for finding photos much?
