Which canvas for B&W?

When I print black and white on Epson Premium Satin canvas, the results are disappointing.

Can anyone recommend a good canvas for black and white prints?

Epson Premium Canvas Matte.  With my new Epson 7900, I purchased every canvas width Epson sells up to 24" in Matte and Satin and am finding out I use the Matte almost exclusively. I then bring the sheen up with GlamorII if thats what I want.

Have been using Epson Premium Canvas Matte.  Sadly, the latest rolls I received have a lot more texture (and heavier weight) than previous rolls.

The older rolls had very fine texture that allowed sharp bi-directional printing.  The newer rolls have the same coating but the texture is now so extreme that sharp prints are no longer possible even with uni-directional printing, and even he slightest gloss on the coating causes a galaxy of little highlights that are very objectionable IMHO.

So be sure you evaluate one of the newer rolls.  The  part number remains the same at S045074, but it's a whole different beast now.  Doggone it Epson, why did you do that!

EDIT: And it's a lot less white, maybe the equivalent of 4 RGB units darker than the older version!  AAAARRRRGHHH!!!!  I was getting so committed to this canvas!

Bill,

Thanks for the heads up on Epson Matte Canvas.

Anyone else use a canvas for black and white which works for them?

BF 12.2 UDM matte canvas was designed for B&W printing and works very well for both B&W color.

Received a sample package of the Dura Textiles canvases.  Just based on printing profiling targets on the single 8x10 sheet of a couple I would say that the CAN901 looks awfully promising, very dynamic looking target compared to some others, would probably take a pretty good inkload.  901 is very smooth, closer to an art paper than a canvas.  And a few other of the Dura's are also considerably smoother than any of mainline canvases I have used so they should print very sharp.  Got a 36" roll on the way, will file a report.  Expensive, won't be able to use it unless it offers something really outstanding beyond the smooth texture.
