For those using Photokit Sharpener on top of Photoshop, what are the best output sharpening settings for Blurb books?
Is it halftone 150 lpi (300 ppi) coated?

Bernard,

To answer that question, you really REALLY need to know the actual pixel density of the final repro...

It could be 150LPI with a rez of 300PPI or it could be 175LPI with a rez of 350PPI. One really can't say with ANY  definitively unless you know the final pixel density (in terms of PPI) of the image as all output sharpening is based on pixel density....

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for the feedback. Yes, I am aware of that.

I guess that it would have been more direct to ask what resolution Blurb prints at indeed. From what I have gathered, it appears to be 300 PPI.

Regards,
Bernard

I've used the ID -> jpeg -> Blurb method with good results.

I'd submit that the "best" settings for sharpening are subject to individual taste.  My method was to make a cheaper test book with images of different character labeled with different sharpening methods/settings.  This was extremely useful, and I feel like I was able to squeeze the best quality from their presses.

One gotcha I've been caught by:  there was apparently some conflict with Open Type(?) fonts when using text in the Blurb software.  I don't know if this has been resolved or not, but at the time I fixed it by going with plain Postcript fonts before.

GBPhoto,

Thanks a lot for your kind feedback. The idea to submit a test book with differnt setting is for sure a good one.

I do not intend to use any of the Blurb software fonts, everything will be done in ID.

Cheers,
Bernard
