tutorials for Wacom Tablets?
« on: January 13, 2009, 08:27:43 am »

Hey guys,

I've finally joined the Allegiance of the Wacom Tablet.  Figured I needed to learn how to edit using this thing at some point.  So far, with no modifications and no instruction, it seems like a pretty badass tool for editing.  However, I KNOW there's a vault of power that I haven't unlocked yet...

Any good tutorials or pages dedicated to showing you how to set this thing up and use it for optimal photo editing?

Much appreciated.

I'm sure there is a huge amount of power built into my Wacom tablet. However, I got tired of accidentally bumping and jostling the switches, buttons, and pads, and changing things I didn't want changed, so I turned them all off. All of them. I place my keyboard above my tablet, and use the pen in my right hand, and use my left hand to choose tools, brush sizes, etc., through keyboard shortcuts. Works pretty well for me.

I used a Wacom Intuos tablet for a number of years and currently use the Wacom Cintiq as part of my daily workflow. It is an just input tool, a pressure sensitive mouse.  The only thing you need to learn is how to adjust the button functions. Anything else is just personal preference. The Wacom control panel allows you to adjust and change settings for all programs or specific programs. You can change the functions assigned to the tablet and pen buttons. Some programs have more support for the tablet functions than others.

Here is a list of Wacom enabled programs and the functions they support:

Just got this DVD on the tablet and CS4:

I've just started to look into it. Has two parts. One is devoted to the tablet and setting it up the other in the use of the tablet.

the buttons on the side are really useful. The strip allows quick zooming, I use the right strip for brush size (the [ and ] keys)
I set one button for Ctrl Alt Z which goes back one step in the History,

the two clicky buttons on the pen itself, I set one for the Hand tool for quick moving around the screen and the other to switch the brush (between black and white for masking purposes)

this setup is extremely useful for my masking and clonestamping purposes.

if you set it according to your uses you can get to a point where you barely even need to reach for the keyboard...
