New Singh-Ray Vari-N-Duo with full frame cameras
« on: December 25, 2008, 03:31:15 pm »

I currently have the Vari-ND filter in the thin mount (no front threads). Singh-Ray has said that this filter cannot/should not be used with a polarizer. The following is a quote regarding the Vari-ND filter from the Singh-Ray site:

"theVari-ND can be used with most other Singh-Ray filters except Polarizers or Polarizers PLUS"

To address the fact that the Vari-ND cannot be used with a polarizer, Singh-Ray has re-designed the Vari-ND filter and created a combo filter (Vari-ND + Warming polarizer combined in one filter), which is called the Vari-N-Duo filter. However, this filter is not being offered in a thin mount and is only offered in the standard 77mm filter size.

I was hoping to find out if anyone has purchased this filter and can help me with the following questions:
- how much thicker it the new Vari-N-Duo filter in comparsion to the older standard 77mm Vari-ND filter (with front threads)
- how much vignetting can I expect with the the new Vari-N-Duo, the 24-105L and the 5D II (or any other full frame camera).
- how much vignetting is there with the regular Vari-ND filter with the 24-105L anda  full frame camera.
