I am looking for a high quality online printing service for the occasional 8x10" prints to be framed, and since I don't print at much, price is not an issue.  I don't print enough to justify buying a printer.  I have found Costco and Shutterfly to be unpredictable.  Where do pros go for their high quality prints?

The top pros go either to the room where there printer is, or to a local printing specialist who's skills they hold in something like reverence.

I don't think many pros trust online services any more than Costco.  I know of cases where pros have changed labs to follow the-guy-who-really-knows-how-to-do-it-right when he moves to another company.  Many pros use cottage industry printing specialists, a relatively new breed of which we have a few here.

Two services I use....Both do a pretty good job.

Millers; a little pricey but their color control is very good (matches mine very closely.)  Lots of different options.

and

Exposure Manager.  Good overall service with very inexpensive printing.  Never had customer complaints about their prints, plus you can sell your stuff from galleries hosted on their web site without having to set up your own merchant credit card account.

Good luck.

As mentioned Millers is very good.  They have been in the professional lab business for decades and have adapted to digital workflow very well.  I've actually been to their production  facility in Kansas, very impressive.

mPix is actually a lower service division of Millers.  I think the files coming in follow the same workflow, but they tend to handle customer support via email vs telephone with Millers.
