D1 shutter / bulb control
« on: April 15, 2003, 03:45:21 pm »

Nikon makes (2) remote releases, that plug into the front of the camera, below the PC sync socket.

One only has a trigger and a lock button, but it will get you the effect you want, you can just hold the trigger down or depress the trigger and then slide the lock till you are done.

MC-20 I believe is their number, but just look up on the Nikon site for remote releases.

The other and more expensive version has a timer.

D1 shutter / bulb control

Last nite I set my D1 on a tripod pointed at the horizon. The goal was to capture lightning flashes. In manual mode I set the shutter speed to 30 sec., and app. at f16. My plan was that sometime within the 30 sec. there would be lightning, at which point I would close the shutter, perhaps 18 sec. into the 30 sec. time I originally set the shutter for. How do I cancel/close the shutter before the 30 sec. are up.

How can I control the bulb setting without having to physically keep my finger on the camera, there by preventing camera shaking.
