Wireless Triggering
« on: October 27, 2008, 06:37:33 am »

I thought it would be good to separate the discussion of wireless triggers out of the Sinar Price Reduction thread.

What's attractive about the Elinchrom Skyports is its compact size.
Here are some videos on YouTube.

PocketWizard needs to make their transmitter as small.
I've been asking since the Skyports became available some 18 months ago.

It could be possible though because the Profoto's do learn the signal being sent to it.
Good idea, unlikely though since the specs are very different:
Skyports: Operates at 2.4GHz 40-bit security   165 foot indoor/395 foot outdoor range
PocketWizard:  344MHz frequency 16-bit coding   1600+ foot range

In the past,
PocketWizard [circuit board] could be installed internally for certain Nikon camera bodies
which proves how compact it can get.

Freewire from Quantum is also very reliable. But I think the Pocket Wizard is nicer because it also allow you to trigger the camera one the same unit and set varies delay on the units for special lighting effect. But of course, if just a in-studio, regular work, the Skyport is really convenient as it is so much smaller than both Pocket Wizard and Freewire with hotshoe mount. Pocket Wizard seemed to have better industries reach that a few powerpacks with built-in receiver for them as well as the Sekonic meters.

Actually this is an answer to a post in the 'other wireless' thread

I have used my skyport set up to 1/800th with my H2 without problems.
