Nothing with the word "Windows" in it was ever the solution to anything  

Computing power isn't a viable excuse.  Few people need 5fps for anything, and a larger buffer can be had at marginal cost.

I have been shooting RAW for two years in a D2x & now a D700. Just today I did a senior portrait & tried the D700 in RAW+jpeg. WB set to auto. To my surprise in 90% of the photos the jpegs were as good as what I could extract from RAW. But then the other 10% is why ya shoot RAW.
