I don't really think your subject matter is all that bad.... just put a little more time in post maybe?

It's interesting I thought the same as witz, he just was faster ;-). Some of them have potential it just as to be used. In addition, to post a few less wouldn't hurt.

no, those look great.  I would rather you hack this site and go back and delete people's nonconstructive "complaining".

I obviously missed all the negative and hinting comments cause when I come into this thread I look for two things PHOTOS (*shocking*) and times when I see people quoting with a picture I took so I can read/reply to comments. Looking through this I see plenty of "snaps" that you call works and works that you call snaps. Your subjective snobbery seems baseless. Since I'm a big tent photographer, I'm not going to point posts out. Please, link me to a text book photo-snobbery definition of the difference between "works" and "snaps" so that I don't offend anymore. The fact of the matter is that of course I'm zealous.  Think back to before you were all the immensely great and lucrative medium format photographers. back to a time when you were excited about exploring this format.  I'm just picking up MF after 10 years of digital. Maybe you could have benefited from a nice community of other medium format photographers when you started out.  Maybe you would have been excited. Maybe you would have posted here (if this place existed back then). The fact of the matter is that these photographs ARE pushing my boundaries. Each one of these takes more thought and foresight than any of the pictures I've had in Rolling Stone or ap. Digital, you can rattle off 11-frames a second, but with film you have to think cause each shot is money.

as for flickr, yeah.. that's what I want to deal with creative commons licensing and Getty. no thank you.

the late George Carlin had a brilliant couple lines about radio.  You know there are two knobs on the dial. one of the turns the radio off and the other one changes the station.

C'mon, some of these don't even have straight horizons, and skin tones and labradoodle fur is blown out repeatedly! How much time did you put into this, after pushing the button? I would suggest a different definition for works, versus snaps: if you print it and consider hanging it on your wall, then post it here. If you wouldn't, don't. And please post only 1 or 2 at a time, and not 6 or 8.

So where's your 'OFF' button?

Revaaron.
Please accept my apologies for me earlier remark.
I am sorry it has taken me this long to apologize but this is the first chance I have been able to get back here since feeling regret much earlier.
I was going to send you a private message apologising, but felt you deserved a public apology, as my remarks may have incited others to be negative as well.
I try to live by the principle of treat others as you would like to be treated, but this time I failed miserably.
There really is no excuse for my rudeness, and I wish I had the maturity to have given you actual constructive criticism instead, as others here did.

I do feel though that you could afford to be a bit more judicious with what you post, maybe 1 or 2 of the images from your day out,
rather that what seems like every image you took  - Keepers and below average shots.
It is always a good practice in business to "put your best foot forward".
But even so, there is no excuse for my earlier rudeness.
I hope you will always keep your obvious enthusiasm for photography, as it is a wonderful thing to have.
Kind regards
Andrew

I believe that he uses a Contax 645 with 45, 80 and 120mm lenses, and Kodak Portra 160 film, and scans on an Epson V500.

Mamiya AFD, 45mm. The night shot was 8s and f5.6, and the day shot 125 f11. Developed in C1 4 pro. Which I love for my Mamiya, makes it a descent back... almost...

PS: I think Aaron has us fooled... a least a little. He has some decent shots on his portfolio website. Not much like the "snaps" he's been posting here. He's clearly at home in the metal scene, and has been published in magazines and newspapers far more than most would think.

ok, I will limit my pictures and not post things before they are ready. And I obviously need to get my epson fixed since the labradoodle fur seems to be an issue... weird that when I metered with my Nikon D3, the fur comes out perfect.

@jmvdigital: I saw myself taking pictures the other day on the history channels gangland show. weird stuff.

No sh*t! I watch that show, which gang was the show about? I'm guessing, by your photos, it was FSU?

for the day shot, do you do that by hand or tonal mapping?
for the night shot, what was the illumination?
I have never used capture one, but looking at the DP piece on it, I just might like it.

I think they have a demo version and I think that I tried to download it, but I don't think that worked.
There are places that look a lot like that in Albany, NY... but I don't like walking around there with camera gear at night anymore.

yes, the FSU. it was a show at the ICC basement in allston mass. back in 2003. just got my nikon SB-80 flash and thought I was so awesome. the pictures are so terrible. Such an intense show. The band that was there (ramallah) is the band playing on the new punisher movie trailer.

Yes I did that by hand with different exposures as a base... and the rest is retouching...  For the night shot: I used the available light and lit the dancer with 3 profoto flashes from different angles. Berlin is save and i think you can carry your gear everywhere unless you are very unlicky... but I love NY and never ran into trouble there, even in more shaby neighborhoods. The only thing that freaks me out as an european is that people could actually wear guns, because there are so many around. sorry, don't want to go of topic.

I felt a need to stop the car and snap this yesterday. Let's just call it "Milwaukee Gothic" ... to the curb with the Old Style and in with the new.
