Best "point 'n shoot camera"?
« on: June 07, 2008, 10:18:32 pm »

A friend of mine would like to find a really nice point 'n shoot camera for doing landscapes and general shooting around town.  A camera that he can be low key with would be nice.  Something with inter-changeable lenses would be too much to deal with for him.  He would like to be able to make enlargements up to 16 x 20 inches.  What cameras are people liking in terms of the resolution and sharpness of the images?  I have heard good things about the Canon G9.

Thanks!

The g9 is good.  It is pretty big and not great at high ISO.

If you could revisit the SLR question something like the Oly E-420 is pretty small and unobtrusive and would allow prints of that size.

I Like my gx100, but I've not printed a full frame that big yet - but I suspect that they all need a bit of care to get the images up to that size in comparison with a 5D for example.

A Canon G9 will give you quality photos in a camera 2 inches deep with a 35-210 mm (eff.) zoom.  To get a small DSLR twice that size you would have to give up some of that zoom.

For me, a no longer sold Yashica T4 with a Zeiss 35 mm fixed lens would work. I distrust those P&S cameras with zooms. Can someone recommend a P&S camera with a WA lens?
