Photospheres

The April issue of Professional Photographer magazine has an article featuring Ed Hill who produces spherical panoramas, or as he calls them Photospheres.

His images can be found on http://www.glartists.com/ and http://www.warwickleadlay.com/pageview.php...n=Edward%20Hill

I think his images are stunning but how does he do them? The article mentions he shoots full 180 degree panoramas both vertically and horizontally but how would he stitch them together?

Curious to give this a go but don't know where to start. Has anyone tried these?
