Big Sur

I'm going to spend 4 days in the Big Sur in 2 weeks and am looking for suggestions on prime locations to photograph with suggested timing. My information is the inland hiking trails are closed because of fire hazard so I may be confined to coastal locations. Thanks in advance.

Growing up in California ( I don't plan to fully grow up)  I never got tired of Big Sur.  If you're coming from the north, I'd suggest spending at least a few hours at Point Lobos in Monterey. (Easy to find on Google). You'll see where many of Edward Weston's photos came from.  Go south, and just past the State Park is Pfeiffer Beach.  (http://www.bigsurcalifornia.org/beaches.html).  It can get windy there.  You absolutely have to go a bit south to Nepenthe for lunch or dinner.  A bit pricey, and worth it, in a addtition to a great craft store that is an institution.   May want lunch or dinner at the River Inn at big sur.  It's fun, and often on the weekends has live music.  (I was a a bluegrass festival there a couple weeks ago.) Can get chilly and foggy, so bring Canada clothes    -- and the fog can make for some great photos.

Enjoy.

Another enthusiastic vote for Point Lobos, Pfeiffer Beach, and Nepenthe...

I also concur with the above selections.  Here's an interesting overall guide to the region:

One resource that you may find useful is the book "Day Hikes Around Big Sur" by Robert Stone (Day Hike Books, Inc ISBN 1-57342--41-7) available from
Amazon. It provides maps showing where you can park and many of the hikes provide good photo opportunities. My personal favorite is Partington Cove
(about 8 miles south of Nepenthe) but I'll add another vote for Point Lobos.
