Shimming a sliding back (Silvestri bicam)
« on: January 04, 2008, 11:01:35 am »

I just got a Silvestri Bicam with a sliding back for Mamiya AFd mount...and lo behold there is some backfocusing....the groundglass is probably abit further back than the

it's  amazing that such an expensive piece of metal doesn't come calibrated beforehand...
but anyway is there a way for me to get this shimmed without having to have it sent back to the factory. I'm overseas now so I can't send it back at the moment

How does shimming a sliding back adapter work anyway?

Right now I managed to gauge how much extra I need to adjust my focus to compensate for the backfocus
I have to say that it's a real joy to use this camera. focusing on the groundglass with the 45mm Rodenstock lens...not HR.
seems most detailed at f8 but negligible loss of detail all the way till f16
