ACR: anyway to change settings without opening
« on: October 29, 2007, 04:36:18 pm »

Is there anyway to change or at least see your current work settings without having to open up an image in ACR?

In Bridge, if you select a file you there's a "Camera RAW" section in the metadata tab that will show you the current settings. If that section isn't there, it's because the file doesn't have an XMP sidecar and has no settings of its own aside from the ACR defaults.

To change a file's settings without opening in ACR you would have to use Presets. Right-click on a RAW file, and the "Develop Settings" submenu will show the defined presets that you can apply, along with the Copy/Paste Settings commands.

thanks Jeff:
Actually that RAW metedata is not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about the workflow settings of print resolution, and file size, color space.... sorry

No, but those settings do not change unless you intentionally change them, and are not part of the RAW conversion settings saves with the image, so it's not that big of a hassle to open a RAW to look. When you select ProPhoto as ACR's output space, all subsequent conversions will be made to ProPhoto until you manually change the setting to something else.

Jonathan is right.

That said, if you want to change many settings directly in Bridge, I'd consider Peter Krogh's tool, rapidfixer: http://www.damuseful.com/pages/rapidfixer.html

I think in all the Dam plug in there is no place to change your workflow settings.

I meant many other settings.

Again, the settings stick from one image to the other, so there is little use to do it manually.

If you really, really need to manually apply workflow option (but why, since it'll be the same as the last image? why use another mode than ProPhoto, or another resolution, since the pixel number does not change?) on images without opening them, the copy/paste settings seems the way to go.

Thanks P.
It would be very useful if there were presets for workflow settings.

ie

one for srgb at 72 dpi etc

and another at 300 dpi adobe rgb

etc etc

without having to open an image as I do now and manually change everything in the dropdown
