HP DesignJet 120NR Mac driver questions

(1/2) > >>

BCS:
These questions are specific to the Macintosh and HP DesignJet 120NR users.
I have recently obtained a used HP DesignJet 120NR.
I'm using OS X 10.4.10 and HP Inkjet Driver 2.7 on a G5.

Having read Neil Snape's excellent article on ICC printing with the HP DJ130 on the Mac, I thought I would try something similar on the DJ120. However there does not appear to be the same options on the paper type/quality color pulldown in the DJ120 driver.

There is No "Application managed" choice... only ColorSmart/SRGB or GreyScale

1) Am I out of luck with the DJ120 and limited to ColorSmart/sRGB?

2) Is there any way to use the DJ130 driver with the DJ120?

3) I am currently trying a trial version of PrintFab as a possible way around the above problems. Any one else using that?

4) If anyone is using the DJ120 with Apple's Aperture software, I'd like to find out more details as well.

I  plan to change to using the HP#85 130 inks in the future (using the 120 caps/chips) as done by Carl Hennig.

Hopefully there is someone else using a Mac and an HP DJ120 somewhere?

David

I thinks it's in Color Options Tab, no CM.
I had a HP PS 10, and a 120 too. You might want to try to find an HP RIP made by Scanvec that really runs fine with a 120.

Thanks for the reply Neil.
With the driver I have the Color Options Tab doesn't have that option, only Saturation Brightness Colortone and individual CMY sliders.

Thanks for the tip on Scanvec, I'll check that out.

I have not had any luck finding the HP RIP for the DJ 120NR (for Mac OS X). The HP site is like an adventure game.

I did manage to get the HP RIP for the 130NR but it, like the HP print driver, will not work unless it sees the correct ID from the printer. This is so frustrating because I'm sure the driver would work if only the printer driver could be fooled into thinking it was a 130 rather than a 120 that it was talking to.
If only the 120 driver had some way of using application managed colour.

But what are in Color Options in the driver window?
