Monitor Profile Validator...what is a good dE2000?
« on: August 25, 2007, 08:04:33 pm »

woke up a bit too early on this stormy sunday morning (Western Australian Time) and since I had a bit of work to do, I went in with coffee in hand and sat by the computer.

Ups! Need to calibrate! Ok, no problemo! anyway since it was sunday morning and I still had not really woken up, the coffee still had not kicked in yet. I went looking for buttons to click! and found Monitor Profile Validator for my iOne. Juubiii more buttons to press.

anyway, I ran the test and it gave me a result, great! dE2000    0.75....ran it on the other screen dE2000   0.85 hmmmm, different!? but what do they mean, one is different then the other but which is better and why?

So, I searched/googled...but i didn't find anything that gave me an answer...maybe I need another coffee.

Is there some kind soul, that can put my curiousity to rest here? I am overdozing on coffee soon! :-)

thanks everyone

Those values are tiny and are probably due to normal inconsistencies of the hardware. I wouldn't worry about them. Anything less than 1 is impossible for you to even see.

Note that the validation is useful to track device drift. If you looked at the deltaE of that calibration and compared it to one done a month ago, and the value was say 3, it tells you that the device drifted that much over that course of time and you might want to now calibrate more often (one or less is ideal).

Also note, the values here provide absolutely NO useful information about the so called accuracy of the profile or the process. Its only telling you how the device changed over the course of two calibration sessions.

thanks Andrew,

I will run it again when I next calibrate and see if they drift too much.

but just to clarify, lower values are better, right? :-)

I am going to have to stop drinking so much coffee! :-)

thanks again

Yes, lower values mean smaller differences -- i.e., better.
