Photoshop gray background RGB #'s
« on: July 15, 2007, 06:57:27 pm »

Question for the color experts. Windows Vista color management
1) If you screen copy the Photoshop program screen (the tools, menu, and gray sceen)
2) then create a document in Photoshop.
What should the RGB numbers be of the gray background, when sampled by the eyedropper in the Info tool?

Before I calibrate my new monitor, the numbers I get on my document sample are:
R=171
B=171
G=171

I would guess the numbers should all be 128 after calibration.

BTW, the open document (screen copy) appears darker than the Photoshop program gray screen, behind the document.
Any wisdom would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

When doing screen captures, you'll need to open the screen capture and Assign your display profile as your assumed profile then do a Convert to a standard working space.

Jeff,
This is a new Vista install on a new monitor - no profiles have been assigned yet.  It is hard for me to understand with the Windows Color Systen defaults.  It appears that the display profile is sRGB, as I have not yet applied a canned ICC monitor profile from the monitor company.
I attached the defaults dialogue box.
In Photoshop, the screen capture is in the Adobe RGB working space to obtain the 171 numbers.

Uh huh. . .well you'll need to profile the display to know what color space the screen captures are in, ya know?
