Dell 3007 and Dark Prints
« on: May 04, 2007, 11:01:23 pm »

I purchased a Dell 3007 primarily for video editing but the screen real estate is so nice that I am trying to use it for editing my photos as well. I have profiled it using the Eye-One Match 3.61 software and spectrometer. I have used both Easy and Advanced modes and gotten essentially the same result. Luminance is set to 140 and I leave the white point at native.

But when I print onto an HP Z3100 (paper calibrated and profiled) the prints that looked good on-screen are dark and dull.

I use Lightroom and Photoshop to print.

If I take a photo off the web it prints fine leading me to think that the problem lies within the monitor.

Is this LCD monitor suitable for editing photos? Has anyone else had the same issues when using LCD's or the Dell in particular?

Any ideas on how to resolve this issue gratefully received.

Try cutting the luminance down to about 100 cd/m².  140 is very bright.

Thanks for the idea but the luminance only goes as far down as 128. I profiled at 130 and there is no discernible change.
