Moab ink transfer
« on: April 17, 2007, 06:21:33 pm »

I'm printing with a Epson 4000 on
Entrada BW paper.  My prints are bound in a book.  I'm
having a problem with the ink rubbing off onto the
opposing page.  The prints are coated with three coats
of PremierArt print shield.  I noticed that Moab now
carries a spray coating for their prints "Desert
Varnish".  Does anyone have any experience with this
product? Would it take care of the
problem I'm experiencing with ink transfer or is it mainly a archival coating?   The
bookmaker who made my books recommended trying a
product called "Lascaux".  My books spend a fare
amount of time being shipped around so I'm more
concerned about protecting the surface of the prints
than I am about UV protection or longevity.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Are you using MK or PK black ink?

I have the same problem with z3100 on Moab Kayenta. Right now I am printing my new book and have no real world experience what happens when transporting the book, but rubbing two printed papers in my hands (even slightly) against each other transfers a fair amount of ink onto the opposite page. I expect this to become a serious problem.

I ordered a coating spray by Hama (Germany) for matte paper but did not receive it yet and have no idea if it works at all    Just a try...

Any input welcome!

Getting rid of the curl from double sided roll paper is very easy after i saw michaels review of the d-roller, i simply put it together with a metal tube and a thick fabric and it works great. fabric needs to be strong because else you will get a mark on your paper from the papercorner after rolling the first 360 degrees.

Thanks,

Clem

After spraying the prints (Moab Kayenta) for my double sided book using Hama Inkjet Fixierspray Matt (Germany) I found the surface to feel more closed and the amount of color rubbed onto the opposite page ist significantly smaller.

OTOH black areas become lighter/silver on the surface exactly where the papers are rubbing each other, but this is not as bad as before with color on the opposite page.

I can not comment on UV resistance, in which the sprays are said be quite bad. I read a test about this and the conclusion was that hair spray had the best UV resistance on inkjet prints. But, guys, do not use hair spray, the prints will paste

Using the Hama spray the colors of the prints are not affected, neither the look of the paper.

Still I have to wait for longtime conclusions. But so far the spray was a good try. Also I do not ship my book, I visit my future clients personally.

Best,

Clem
