I really don't think it's a tenable, long term business model to be in the business of selling $30,000 digital backs to photographers and advising them to go buy a used camera, lenses and accessories for the back on eBay or from some guys in Hong Kong(MOST of whom are honest)?

Actually why not? We shot film cameras for 10 years and routinely ran $30,000 to $50,000 of film and processing through them every 12 months.
Still, there are other options than the Hasselblad and the not yet being sold HY6, so I don't understand what the panic about camera bodies is about.
Even with the mad rush to Contax where dealers like KEH has limited supply I can still go online and in one day have every body and lens contax sold and even at inflated prices, for thousands less than a Hasselblad H system and probably many thousands less than the HY6.
I can promise you if Phase sold a digital back to every Contax, RZ, Mamiya 645 and Hasselblad H owners they would be doing quite fine.
Still, if you want the straight, honest story on Phase I suggest you talk to either Chris Lawrey ro Dave Gallagher at Capture Integration in Atlanta.
I live in NY, work in LA, have a second studio in Dallas and can buy from anyone in the world and when buying Phase, Dave's group is in my opinion head and shoulders above every Phase dealer in the nation.
For Leaf or Hasselblad you will also get great honest service form Steve Hendrix, also in Atlanta.
Must be something in the water.
