Nikon RAW noise processing
« on: April 11, 2007, 12:34:02 pm »

Anyone here has any ideas, techniques and thoughts on processing high ISO Nikon images? I'm a Canon user shoot often in low light at high ISOs. I've tried using Nikon's camera system with the same lighting and find the noise horrible compared to Canon image. Do any of you have any high ISO images that you can share to show the best of Nikon (images that have been post-processed) at high ISO e.g. 1600. How much grain/luminance noise still exist and how much detail can u extract from the image?

Although I shoot with a Nikon DSLR, I rarely shoot at the high ISO's, so I'm not the expert on this subject. But, I did find some good information for you.

Good luck,

The best camera in Nikon mount today for high ISO/good DR/great colors is probably the Fuji S5Pro.

I appears that the S5Pro is still behind the Canon 5D in terms of detail at ISO1600, but it is ahead both in DR and color saturation. I don't know how it compares to the Canon 1DII/1DIII.

If you are looking into purchasing a Nikon body, then it appears that the 400US$ D40 (price in Japan) is probably the best in absolute detail at ISO1600.

Bernard
