Improving image archival qualities with PFI-1300 inks in Canon 4100

(1/1)

Proeberphoto:
There have been some interesting discussions about the archival life of color prints from the Canon 2100, 4100, 6100 regarding the current Lucia Pro ink set (Canon Singamore had run an advertisement suggesting 60 years for constant display under non-uv glass for the color 4100 inks. Some earlier testing had shown the 4000 generation color inks to be 100 years under the same conditions). I posed a question on the B&H site if the older 4000 ink set, in the PFI-1300 cartridges, which are believe superior, could be installed in the 4100 generation printers. Three answers said yes, the older cartridges are compatible with the 4100 generation printers. Privately, Canon is admitting the problem with the long terms stability of the 4100 ink set is that the yellow ink fades slightly faster that the older 4000 inks. Do any of you think using the yellow 4000 ink PFI-1300 cartridges in the 4100 could be an answer to this issue for those of us who are looking for greater archival stability for our color 4100 prints?

The inkset did not change between Pro-X000 and Pro-X1000 series. It has just changed with the new Pro-X600 series which have a wax component to the ink that was designed to improves archival qualities.
