Question on Contrast

Shooting portrait, on jpeg, usually fine even with jet black hair and medium white skin. But on a recently shoot, the face looks fine, but the hair is too contrasty. Any ideas? Hope that was clear. thanks.

Shoot raw if you can - more leeway for adjustment. And/or use your camera's histogram to adjust exposure.

Too contrasty as in losing shadow detail, or is the detail there, but you are trying to use as much of the camera's output as possible without doing much or any of your own digital processing? If the former, shoot RAW. If the latter, you need to change your lighting to something less contrasty or perhaps change your camera's jpeg processing setting.
