Damn, that is a real shame. I've found answers to a lot of questions on that site over the years.

Just seen this  :(

I just hope that the reviews manage to find another home, they're an amazing resource.

I've thought it has been slowly going downhill since Phil sold the site. Too much content only available on video for me. I'd also guess that paying the fess to host so much user content in galleries and forums for free hasn't been a great financial move.

The site is a subsidiary of Amazon.  An outfit like B&H might have been a better fit if the goal was to generate equipment orders.

Wow!
Do have to say the forums were often a cesspool of misinformation but overall, the reviews were somethings useful.

What a shame. It was a handy one-stop place to get specs of older camera models.

Bummer!

They have been a great resource for decades. They will be missed. I hope that the key employees find gainful employment.

It looks like they Chris and Jordan have landed at PetaPixel and plan to continue creating content.

i read comments on other photographic sites like : they close but we will continue...
indeed if Dpreview cannot exist you start questioning other photo-sites...
of course it all has to do with the implosion of the photo camera market due to the mobile phones...
They cannot survive on a handful of cameras and lenses a year.
Still i did not see this coming as many didn't

Really unexpended ending! Tests were helpful and with an unmatched set of cameras and lenses.

The Internet Archive is reportedly scraping the site now:
https://www.reddit.com/r/photography/comments/11ya4fa/dpreview_is_being_archived_by_the_archive_team/

Here's part (but not complete) of the poster's message:
"Once archived, the entire site will be made available for anyone to browse on the internet archive. The entire .WARC will also be made available for anyone to download and view locally with a .WARC viewer such as Web Replay — this allows you to download the site and view it locally forever. You will be able to download the .WARC file from here once complete.
Personally, I'll be downloading every image on the DPReview Studio Camera Comparison tool page as it is an irreplaceable tool for direct camera comparisons going back the entire history of digital photography."

Remember "Information wants to be free"? Beware simple-minded slogans. Delivering that info is work and nobody works for free. The digital advertising model seems to be failing. We made the wrong bet.

We didn't choose it's model though.

The reviews at DPR were (and are historically) excellent and worth paying for, but they chose to go down the route of relying on advertising and that has proven to be a poor choice.
I wonder if Amazon should have drawn on Prime membership to control access and fund the site ?

I will miss the "Photographic Science and Technology" forum, which had some contributors and discussions not found anywhere else, at least for free.

I remember when similar topics were discussed here at LuLa years ago, but most of those posters have been gone for a long time.

You have to hand it to them, they are still publishing new content on dpreview.

It is part of Amazon's downsizing, or firing 19,000 people. Everybody likes and expects for everything to be free, but the truth is, everything costs money to maintain.

From DPReview:
"We hear your concerns about losing the content that has been carefully curated over the years, and want to assure you that the content will remain available as an archive."
