LR 12.1 slow to start up
« on: January 20, 2023, 10:54:53 am »

All of a sudden in the last week, LRC 12.1 is taking almost five minutes to "rev up" and if I try to do anything at all (click here, click there), even though it looks like LRC is ready to go, the program "freezes" a white translucent screen appears, task manager shows that LRC is not responding (duh) and I have to cancel the process and restart and wait... I have been editing a bunch of images from my recent trip, I always back up my catalog, I've reset preferences, etc. I'm stymied so thought I would reach out for suggestions.
Win11 up to date
Should check the gpu driver...
-Update: shutting off gpu made no difference

Try resetting your Lightroom preferences:
https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/help/setting-preferences-lightroom.html
Also see: https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic-discussions/important-steps-for-manually-resetting-preferences-omitted-from-help-article/td-p/12972518

Quit Lightroom Classic.
macOS: Press and hold the Shift + Option keys.
Windows: Press and hold the Shift + Alt keys.
While holding down the keys, launch Lightroom Classic.
When asked, select "Yes".

Any problems with your drives that you store images on (also the drive you keep your catalog on),  How full are they?  SSD?  Spinners?

PS can take a long time to start on me occasionally if I have been saving files to a slow NAS in my system (I'd guess that it tries to locate all the files in the Recent cache and has to spin up the NAS).  I'd guess LR might do the same (but I don't use my NAS on LR for anything).

Make a new catalog and import just a few files.  How fast does that start up?
