Yes, it's a great idea and very well done. It's a modern herbarium but with an aesthetic twist.

For me it depends on how large you plan to make each image.  My only criticism is that they all seem to be floating in white space. 
I think if they were all framed as small images your approach works.  Just my view.

Thanks for your suggestions, Mark. I went for that 'floating in white space' feel while processing, but I think framing may be a good option, too.

i liked the oval leaf the best, i suspect because it appears to have darker edges in some areas.
