To digress and address this: last week at White Sands NM. The dogs had a blast.

Beautiful images and very pleasing colours. Morning or afternoon?

It's a real treat to have some photos, even here in the bear pit.

Alan, does it give you some kind of perverse pleasure to lecture us on the principles of economics?
I'll let President Biden sum up his political liability due to inflation.

WASHINGTON – President Joe Biden called Fox News White House reporter Peter Doocy “a stupid son of a bitch” Monday on a live microphone, after Doocy asked Biden whether inflation was a political liability to him.

The verbal slip took place during a White House event on Biden administration efforts to combat inflation. After Biden complained that all the press questions were about the military buildup around Ukraine, Doocy shouted, “Will you take questions about inflation? Do you think inflation is a political liability ahead of the midterms?”

Thinking his microphone was turned off, Biden responded sarcastically, “No, that’s a great asset. More inflation.”

He added: “What a stupid son of a bitch.”

And getting back to the cult of blaming Biden for everything, especially the price of those Big Mac's and coke, it probably isn't much consolation for Alan struggling with the blame game here:

With prices rising all over world, leaders see no quick fix

It probably isn't much consolation for Americans struggling with the highest inflation in 40 years, but they are not alone.
In the European Union, prices are rising faster than at any time since the euro currency was introduced. The annual inflation rate in the United Kingdom hit 5.4 percent in December, the highest figure in nearly 30 years. Canada's consumer prices are rising twice as fast as before the pandemic.

"Part of what we're seeing in the U.S. is very similar to, and echoed in, the rest of the world," said Nathan Sheets, global chief economist for Citigroup.
All of what Alan is seeing in the U.S. is Biden's fault even if it means less Big Mac's ingested.

Biden is right!

John Cleese on Stupidity...

"I think the problem with people like this is they are so stupid that they have no idea how stupid they are. You see, If you are very very stupid, how can you possibly realize that you are very very stupid? You have to be relatively intelligent to realize how stupid you are... If you are absolutely no good at something at all, then you lack exactly the skills that you need to know that you are absolutely no good at it. And this explains not just Hollywood but almost the entirety of Fox News."

Well Doocy is a stupid son of a bitch, and good for Biden for saying so. OF COURSE inflation is a liability for Biden, why doesn't Doocy ask "Does the sun rise in the east?" Typical knuckle-dragging Fox crapola.

Pointing out stupid son's of bitches will not work for Biden as it doesn't work for those of us here.

That has to set a new standard for illogical, irrelevant non-sequiturs on LULA.  Congrats, Alan.

Well, I understand Biden called him personally to apologize.  But beside that, it is a very apropos question.

The Dow dropped 1100 points yesterday before recovering and dropped about 700 points today and is around -370 now.  Maybe that's due to the Fed tightening up, or claiming they will because of inflation.   Biden just reappointed Chairman Powell, the same guy who famously and erroneously said that inflation was transient.  Temporary.  Nothing to worry about.  The Fed's action is going to cause major changes to the economy, even setting off a recession as the Fed pulls back.  Biden ignores the issue at his peril.  The Democrats are already retiring knowing they're going to lose the House and maybe the Senate because of Biden and inflation and the economy.  Can Biden afford to be a smart aleck with questions the public is very concerned about as they see the prices of everything go up?

He's still confused about how this process actually works. But no matter, as long as he can blame Biden, no matter what the confirmation process provides, he's happy; bliss. The senate is off the hook in Alan's little 'mind'.

Instead of being a smart aleck, Biden should have said, "Yes, I'm very concerned about inflation but not because of elections.  My concern is that it affects the pocketbook of every American.  That's why I reappointed Chairman Powell to address it and he is. The Fed is going to stop buying all those treasuries and raise interests rates.  While that will create a burden on some, it's the only way we will be able to get inflation under control.  I need Americans to understand we're faced with a real challenge.  But together we can get this under control."

Instead, he ignores it at his peril.  It will seem to the public that he's totally out of the loop and doesn't care about Doocy or the public.  It will look like he's trying to evade the issue and hope it will just go away on its own.  That's a mistake.

I don't understand any of these latest postings. Markets go up, markets go down, so what's new. There's a tense situation over in Ukraine, markets are always volatile in tense times.

In other news, the UK is planning to lift Covid restrictions soon and if you look at the numbers on the Worldometer pages you can see why. Their high levels of vaccination seem to be reaping dividends. We'll soon see if full "opening" is premature, but I guess Boris need to deflect attention away from his partying ways.

But the 7-day moving average of US daily deaths is hovering at the 2000 dead per day. Alan is probably quick to say that is happening on Biden's watch and so he owns it, even though he never said that about Trump during his time at the "helm". In those days, it was always the scientists' fault or the Governor's fault or maybe it was the "leftie media", I forget. No need to respond to this Alan, we all know what you're going to say. I'm predicting cassette No. 31 this time, namely, "It's all about the economy...."

I do have a question for Alan. Do you pay less in taxes when the Republicans are in office? Does the economy experience greater growth? There must be historical graphs showing these things.

Do you really believe you'll get a valid or fact based answer from him???

How about at least one:
Quote
A study by Princeton University economists Alan Blinder and Mark Watson found that the economy performs better when the president is a Democrat. They report that “by many measures, the performance gap is startlingly large.” Between Truman and Obama, growth was 1.8% higher under Democrats than Republicans.6

A Hudson Institute study found that the six years with the best growth were evenly split between Republican and Democrat presidents.7

Most of these evaluations measure growth during the president’s term in office. But no president has control over the growth added during his first year. The budget for that fiscal year was already set by the previous president, so you should compare the gross domestic product (GDP) at the end of the president’s last budget to the end of his predecessor’s last budget.

The economy was doing very well before Covid hit.  Blacks and Latinos had the lowest unemployment rates ever or in something like many decades.  Taxes were lower for most people due to the tax bill passed by Trump and the Republican congress.   I think my taxes were a couple of thousand lower after the tax bill.

However, I've always complained that Trump was a big spender. As a real estate guy, he always leveraged things and continued that in office.  He complained the Fed wasn't printing enough.  He pushed deficit spending.  Actually, Trump was not a traditional Republican with conservative economic policies.  He also is a social liberal.
He would have fit in very well in the democratic party if Hilary wasn't running.  Getting back to economics, he's guilty of causing inflation as were his predecessors and the current president.  No president wants to be caught in a recession, So they all push the Fed to print which creates inflation and bubbles.  It's so bad now, it may be too late to correct without a huge economic depression.  Let's hope not.

From the “what planet are some Republicans living on” side of the Bear Pit:
Quote
GOP Rep Claims Without Irony That No President Has Attacked Press More Than Biden
Indiana Republican Jim Banks asked Twitter users, "Have we ever seen a President attack and malign the free press like Joe Biden has??"

The Indiana Republican attempted to shame President Joe Biden after a hot mic captured him referring to Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy as “a stupid son of a bitch.”
