Sons’ masses and ground planes bring her ideas to life. I admire her eye and am particularly pleased by the lyre shaped stems in the center of the conifers and by the view up the path winding through another dark stand of them.

Compared to the Smokies I guess WV does look empty. I’m a resident who’s seen the visitation needle move some since the lonely 80s. But still, there’s plenty of room, especially for people who can navigate off trail. The central eastern counties - the “mountain” counties - that include Monongahela N.F. are really very good and not at all like the challenged and almost exclusively privately owned landscapes in some other parts of the state.

Thank you Michele Sons for fine, evocative work.
