Lightroom Default White Balance Test
« on: July 30, 2020, 10:18:02 am »

I assumed Lightroom would default to the color temperature setting of the camera. I set the camera to 6870K and imported a test shot into Lightroom.
In the Develop Panel, with WB set to AS Shot, the temperature was 7600. Why doesn't it match the camera?

The camera isn't a tool for measuring CCT and CCT defines a range of possible colors. Part of the numbers provided depend on the profile used, differing raw converters can and often do produce different color renderings from the same CCT value or report differing CCT values. Bottom line, the numbers are rather meaningless.
You want the actual color temp of an illuminant, you use a Spectroradiometer and software to provide that.

See below; ANY value runing along e-f is CCT 5000K. That's quite a range of possible colors from the same CCT value.

I dont think that answers my question. I'm not asking about the rendering. I'm asking why the as shot value doesnt match the camera

I told you why. I'll try again:
Part of the numbers provided depend on the profile used, differing raw converters can and often do produce different color renderings from the same CCT value or report differing CCT values
What you are reporting isn't anything unusual.
Another visual:

And the SAME raw with two differing converters:

I think the most important thing Andrew said was, “ the numbers are rather meaningless.”. The second is different raw converters (this includes the jpeg in the camera)will give different numbers.
