What a wonderful set of images. The joy of the festival really comes through in every image.

I'm particularly partial to the dhol and the shing.

Wonderful, Rajan. Love that little hand gripping her daddy's shoulder.

Since I assume you are open to some input (after all, this is the user critiques section):
- Musician: would like to see some room above his head and at the drum at right; it looks like his "stick" to beat the drum in behind the drum and not ready to hit it
- Seller: would like to see some room on the left
- Children and father: priceless!

Frans,

Thank you for the feedback you have offered.

I agree with your criticism, but in these situations, it is very hard to get an optimal composition. We are dealing with people crisscrossing the frame, cluttered backgrounds, mixed lighting, and above all, shy subjects. So, one tries to do the best under the circumstances.

To address the specific situations you have mentioned -

The musician playing the drum was in the temple foyer with people walking across every few seconds. His stick is in the frame, right by the drum face, but it is blurred since the shutter speed was not fast enough. I had to crop it the way I did to keep out elements I thought were more distracting than the tightness of the crop. Same with the seller.

Thanks, Russ.

Hi Rajan, You're quite accurately describing the difficulties in street photography, and why so few who try do it well.

Following Frans' feedback, I have now fixed two of the images in Photoshop.

Frame 'em in the camera, Rajan. #3 is still the best of the lot. It speaks to your heart instead of your mind.

Much better, Rajan. But you probably would agree that the drummer's head and the drum on the right could use some more space. I do appreciate the difficulties in shooting in a busy environment.
