Problem with Photoshop's Quick Selection Tool
« on: July 04, 2020, 04:15:57 pm »

As a Lightroom user for years, I recently decided that there were a couple of tools in Photoshop that I needed to add to my post-processing arsenal. In other words, I am a PS virgin. With that said, I am having an issue with the Quick Selection Tool, which is likely due to my inexperience.
When I click & drag the cursor across the area that I want to select, rather than the "marching ants" snapping to edges of the selection, they merely follow the path of the cursor inside of the selection area. When I remove my finger from the trackpad, the "ants" are no longer visible. Interestingly, when I use the tutorial example, everything works as it should.

Any thoughts would be kindly appreciated. Thank you.

Magic Lasso or Quick Selection tool? The former only shows marching ants after complete selection is 'closed' You're not seeing them after that?

Actually I think that I stumbled on the problem. I neglected to check the Sample All Layers box. Everything seems to work fine now.

Thank you for your response.
