I've learned from past experience that one always needs to check Rajan's blog for the full story.
This is truly extraordinary!

At the start of the film, the SUV trying to get up a brief hill in the "track" reminded me of our trip to Hekla in 1974. Our big Mercedes bus got stuck on one such hill, and eventually the food-and-supplies truck climbed around the bus and was able to pull us free.

It was a beautiful day, and about half of our group made it to the summit (of Hekla, not Krakatindur), while the rest only made it half way.

I don't recall seeing anything as spectacular as Krakatindur, however.

I recall the photo you had posted (and turned out my friend Börkur knows the driver of your vehicle). The entire Hekla volcanic area is so Lords of the Rings-y.
