Pictures of the COVID-19 Shutdown
« on: April 08, 2020, 01:39:37 pm »

This thread is for photographs documenting the effects in various geographical locations of government restrictions that are intended to reduce the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) virus.  I suggest that each image be labeled with the location where it was made, ideally including a geotag.

Reposting from another thread:

Belgrade, Serbia, April 7, 2020 - a side street of the main pedestrian area:

On my way to pick up food today, I took this one. The sign reads "Stay at Home." The day was lovely, sunny, warm, trees are getting first leaves, and the sun was lighting them from behind. I noticed the trees the other day, but they were in the shade. So I planned today's shoot using Photographer's Ephemeris to tell me exactly at what time today the sun will illuminate this street. 3:02pm, it turns out.

Not a great art, but two things struck me as unusual: the sign, and the fact that the street was practically empty, although in different times, with a weather like this and the arrival of spring, it would be as busy as Times Square.

Belgrade, Serbia, April 8, 2020 - the main pedestrian area:

Lovely spring day, 20C/68F, the time of the year and weather that would have this main pedestrian area of Belgrade packed with people.

Since no one else wants to play, I'll continue:

Belgrade, Serbia, April 10, 2020 - The Republic Square, the very center of the city, National Museum on the left, National Theater on the right, main pedestrian area a few steps to my left:

How come the military are  thoroughly masked and the policemen unconcealed?

How come the military are  thoroughly masked and the policemen unconcealed?

Good question. I do not know. Personal choice? But more likely this: police sleeps at home, alone or in the family. The army sleeps in barracks, 20-60 people in one room, with bunk beds. Potential for infection spreading is much greater.

As a matter of fact, it has been reported that dozens of soldiers got infected while securing the border, in the first wave of people returning from abroad.

You know the things are screwed up when parks are becoming scenes of crime. Totalitarian madness.

Belgrade, April 14th:

P.S. Next weekend, for the Orthodox Easter, we will be under an 84-hour house arrest.

No leaving home even just to take a walk?  What's the stated rationale for that edict?

If I had a dog, I would have 20 minutes within 200 meter (yards) radius from my building. Otherwise, no. Rationale!? What rationale one can expect from an ex-socialist government, advised by the Chinese? It is totalitarianism in action.

Older than 65 are allowed to go shopping between 4am and 7am. No, I am not kidding... in the morning. And for that there are long lines.

Oh, i forgot... older than 65 are not allowed out the whole week (except for shopping above), not just over the weekend.

Having said that, I just returned from an hour and a half walk (I am 63, so my curfew starts at 5pm every week day) with a friend, who is just a few weeks into his 65 (thus risking a fine between 500 and 1500 euros), and I saw no police or military patrols. Truth to be told, in the two weeks since I've been going out for half an hour to get food, I have not seen but a single policeman. And that one was just chatting with a street vendor, not actively monitoring the passerby.

Not much action in my neighborhood, other than a bit of snow today.

Since you're showing a single house, that lack of action can be achieved anyday no matter if COVD-19 is out there or not, as long as the family living in the place remains indoor :p

yep, but it was snowing a bit too much to take the drone much higher.  This was as far as I coud see it.  Besides I liked the composition :)
