If a word has six or eight meanings, you can't expect you audience to know which of the six or eight you mean. When you used the word "laughing", I didn't know whether you meant "smiling" or "sneering", or any of their synonyms, or one of its other meanings. That's why I asked you for a link to one of the articles you were referring to so I could figure it out. You never provided a link so how is anyone suppose to know what you are talking about.
I'm pretty sure everyone else understood what I meant.

Most women think that they understand how the men think. No wonder that they have so many arguments.

A whole bunch of people told that nobody had been laughing. That should have been a clue that what you said wasn't what you meant. If, indeed, that was the case.

Obviously not. Everyone else thought you meant "smiling" when you now say you meant "sneering". That's what the last 47 posts have been about. You know, our imbecility for thinking you meant "smiling".

I'd have said so, but I know that being a liar is no big problem for you.

Unacceptable. Take yet another break.

Only the people who disagree with what I have to say.  You do exactly the same with Trump although I do admit he's often more opaque than I am.

opaque: not able to be seen through; not transparent.

Maybe this will help you understand my posts better.

So which words or phrases were you using fig·ur·a·tive·ly? I mean this could just be a big misunderstanding because were too imbecilic to know what you were talking about.

Who were the members of LuLa who agreed that you were using the word "laughing" to mean "sneering" and not "smiling"? Just linking to the posts would be fine.

People often make mistakes in understanding on the web, email, etc.  It's probably the biggest cause of disagreements and hostility.  It's not what we say but how we say it.

When I first started to use email in business, I pissed off a lot of associates and they me.  The company actually set up a course for everyone where email discretion and communications were taught.  One of the best suggestions was to stop emailing so much and call the other guy to discuss things privately.  Voice and one-on-one communications is more understood and friendly.  Plus you don't feel you have to defend yourself as in public discussions where insult and pride become personal issues.

In light of this reflective moment, and the fact the Jeremy is going to cut us all off on Nov 4th, this might be a good time to apologize to you and everyone else for all insults I have done.  I'm sorry if I embarrassed anyone or hurt their feelings.

If they didn't post that they agreed, how do you know they agreed? Did they send you a private message? I wouldn't want you to post private messages, but maybe you could just mention who they were. Or is this one of those things where you say that you have a list of the people who agreed with you in your briefcase, but we can't see it. Or did you just assume anyone not stupid enough to get one of the tedious back and forths agreed with you. Sometimes when someone tells me something, I just say "whatever" because its not worth the time and effort responding. So maybe those people who remained silent were shaking their heads side to side and not up and down. Not sure how you would know.

In light of my reflective moment, Frank, I'll just say you might be right.  :)

Death rates in NY hospitals decline from 27% to 3% due to younger patients and better treatment.

The 37% to 3% decline is correct if you base it on April heights.
In the last few months the NY death counts were relatively steady, but with the recent increase in new cases, it is very likely that in coming weeks also the deaths will increase.

But the rate of deaths for those hospitalized should stay at 3% rather than 27%.  I've noticed the figures in my town in  NewJersey have gone up in cases over 7 days.   But no deaths. The ages ranged from 4 to around 80.  But it was spread over all age groups. A couple of months ago,  most cases were seniors.  So I can see in my own town how younger people survive better. Of course,  with cases increasing, I still have to be careful.

Death rate increases typically follow weeks after infection rates increases.

Death rate increases typically follow weeks after infection rates increases.

I read an article in Lancet that said that was because patients don't go home and die immediately after getting tested. If that were the case, you would see deaths spike well before the increase in positive test results, because you don't get the test results back for a couple of weeks, and the politicians need some time to skew the results to make it look like what we are dealing with here is more akin to a stubbed toe than a full on pandemic. Call it a month, more or less. Of course, like any opinion of scientists, there is a lot of disagreement, so there is no reason to believe it.  Let's give it time to see how everything plays out, say a couple of years.  We are only in the top half of the first inning, and we have an exceptional bullpen available to us. You don't want to count your chickens before they hatch. Don't worry, the US will have the best response stats when this is all over, and Trump will have won the Nobel Prize in medicine for his treatment discovery of injecting disinfectant directly into the patients' lungs and then taking them down to the car lot to lie down on one of those big search lights for a couple of hours. If you had connections, you could fly to Gotham City, and Commissioner Gordon would escort you to the roof of police headquarters, where you could lie down on the Bat Signal. It goes without saying that Trump used the Defense Production Act to force manufacturers to make several million search lights to alleviate the search light shortage. Trump likened it to closing the mine shaft gap in the 1950s.

As a sort of footnote to history, and I hesitate to mention this since I know that there are a lot of Trump supporters here who don't like having their noses rubbed in it, but in that same year Trump was also up for the Nobel Prize in logistics for his search light production work, but was narrowly edged out of the honor by an intern in UPS's marketing department who discovered that you could achieve a seven-fold improvement in package delivery efficiency by painting all the brown trucks blue. Apparently the drivers were happier and therefore more productive.  There were some rumblings about voter fraud, but since the judges voted by a show of hands rather than mail-in ballots, Trump could never really prove anything, and he finally dropped it after spending several hundred million dollars in legal fees. The scuttlebutt is he lost Turnberry over it.

[Sorry for that last aside, but I couldn't resist. Alexa was playing Crystal Gayle's version of that brown eyes blue song, and I had a moment of epiphany.]

The quantity of deaths would go up if there are more cases.  But not the necessarily the rate. It should stay at 3%.
