Since, as you said, we will never know, we can decide for ourselves what to believe, of course subject to revision if we get further information. We can chose to believe a few, some, or a lot of people took advantage. A lot depends on your beliefs about people and your general outlook on life. If you chose to believe a few people took advantage, you will probably just shrug your shoulders and get on with life. If you believe that a lot of people took advantage, you will probably fume around the house, lash out irrationally at people on the internet, and maybe kick the dog. It is kind of up to you how you want to live with yourself and others. Like I said, subject to revision if you get additional information.
Yeah, there's nothing you can do about these things.  You can't even pick someone to vote for that's watching the store.  The politicians on both side of the aisle want to get elected or re-elected.  So giving away the farm seems reasonable to them.  But you're right.  No point worrying about it.

Don't get me started on government billions to large zombie corporations like the airlines.  Another boondoggle.  All that money wasted, will have to be paid back in the near future by you, me and our kids.

You've been paying back all the wars and other funded invasions for ever. What's the difference? Oh the big difference is the rich 1% get to keep their oil and cocaine interests alive.

In Brazil, the health professionals accused Jair Bolsonaro for crimes against humanity for his mishandling of the crisis. Could something like that happen also in US?

Quote
Coalition representing health professionals in Brazil denounced President Jair Bolsonaro for "crimes against humanity" in a judicial complaint to the Hague International Court of Justice. The document, sent to the attorney general of the International Criminal Court, argues that Bolsonaro committed crimes against humanity by refusing to take necessary measures to protect the public during the pandemic.

The public at risk: The coalition accused Bolsonaro of being careless by promoting gatherings of supporters, approaching them without a mask, and advertising medication like hydroxychloroquine that have no scientific proof of effectiveness against Covid-19.

The US has by far the best army in the world.... but can do nothing to protect their people against a little virus that kills already 150.000 people.
They start a war in Afghanistan if 3000 people die and a building is torn down.
Their priorities are wrong. You cannot shoot your way out of every problem as most of their movies suggest.

Opening pitch controversy, https://www.nytimes.com/2020/07/27/us/politics/trump-yankees-fauci.html?auth=login-email&campaign_id=9&emc=edit_nn_20200728&instance_id=20704&login=email&nl=the-morning®i_id=123097087&segment_id=34532&te=1&user_id=a16d84e9e98e45ca22f1c69a27680995

Trump announced that he would not throw the opening pitch at a baseball game. Now the claim is that this had never been arranged in the first place. Why bother lying about something so petty?

Saw this interesting article about armed people at recent demonstrations against police, https://www.politico.com/news/2020/07/26/black-americans-gun-owners-380162.

The point of the article was that conservatives are critical of the presence of armed men, which I kind of get, despite the fact that some jurisdictions think it's perfectly normal to open carry. I mean, make up your mind, are you in favour of open carry or aren't you? And if you are, what did you think was going to happen, that only people you agree with were going to bring guns?

My other question about the reaction is where was the outrage when those militia stormed into the Michigan (or was it Wisconsin) a few weeks ago?

It is not unusual for different people to read the same thing and come to different conclusions.

It probably wasn't a lie in the sense that The Big Cheeto knew it was false. Rather, something his fabulating mind made up. Recent news has TBC really steamed because Fauci threw the first pitch at the Nats game and that the Fauci baseball card is a best seller.

In a moment of clarity, Trump realized he wasn't going to be able to throw a pitch as well as Fauci, which is surprising since Trump said he was the star of his baseball team when he was in military school. I think he even bought himself a trophy.

https://www.cnn.com/videos/us/2020/07/24/fauci-first-ceremonial-pitch-mlb-baseball-season-eg-orig.cnn

And about those baseball cards: everyone knows the most valuable cards are the ones for which the fewest exist. If they make a million of them, like for Fauci, they are not worth much. On the other hand, if they only print a dozen, you're golden. They are like that upside-down zeppelin postage stamp. Of course, you still have to find twelve people who want to buy them. Let's see: Melania, Don Jr., Eric, Ivanka, Tiffany, Barron, Roger Stone, Alan...

It was the sub-title on the site, so I assumed that's what the author(s) intended, at least in part. It's possible that the sub-title was added by the editor, no way for me to know.

Yes, they could charge NY Gov Cuomo with condemning thousands of old sick people by sending them back to their old age homes and spreading the virus there and killing thousands of their friends.    Of course, Cuomo said he was only following CDC orders from Washington.

No one sane thought it was over. Let's see how different places handle things now. Be interesting to see who learned anything.

Apparently Trump still thinks he has the answer, hydroxychloroquine, https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/509469-trump-doubles-down-on-hydroxychloroquine-as-covid-treatment-defends. Being tenacious and never giving up isn't always a virtue, I guess.

Far from unexpected. The size of a second wave will depend on how each country handles mitigatiom measures, and how the various countries manage their travel networks inside Europe.

As for leaning from the first wave, seems like some countries (e.g. Spain and Belgium) are doing a poor job of delivering a clear message to the unconfined masses.

Everyone here was bragging how the Europeans had it all figured out over the Americans.  I've been the one saying we won't know whose methods were the best until it's over.  Along that line, I was watching a Youtube video about the Spanish flu. It lasted four years 1917-1921.  The second season is came back with a vengeance.  Highest infection and death rates. The 4th year was the "best" with most people recovering who were infected.

A couple of interesting things.  Everyone seemed to be wearing masks.  So how come the CDC told us they don't help a hundred years later?  Where was the press challenging them?  It seems Asians learned the lesson as they always wear masks when they're sick.  But we in the West are dummies.

The other thing was that one year after the end of infection, the US economy had come back very powerfully ushering in the Roaring Twenties.  Let's hope we can recover as quickly although back then we were on the gold standard, had lots of savings and little debt unlike today.
