Canon IPF5000 - Post your Ink Usage Figures
« on: December 03, 2006, 12:03:28 am »

Much to my surprise, the first two prints I made used much less ink than I expected.  I measured the exact size of the printed area, converted to square feet and divided the ml used by the number of square feet to arrive at my figures:

First print - Lexjet glossy - 0.83 ml/square foot
Second print - Lexjet glossy - 1.06 ml/ square foot

These were with Auto Color, and one of the prints looks a bit light (used less ink, also).
I am curious what others are seeing.

The second print had quite a bit of black and more intense colors, and was probably more representative of my prints in general.

Anyone else have any figures.  As I recall, Epsons typically were coming in around 2 ml/ square foot.  Perhaps these prints aren't representative, but interesting nonetheless.  If the IPF5000 is as frugal with ink as this suggests, it would certainly put it ahead of the Epson for ink usage.

PS Apologies to our European colleagues and the rest of the world that uses the metric system.
