The problem in the States is that it's gone too far and is too late. The guns exist in all sorts of hands, exactly as in the Middle East...
Now there's a sobering thought - or two.

I have been in the Sahara desert many times in my life, even in south Libya with Touaregs, and always felt save.- That was all more than 15 years ago.
Journeys through the Sahara are now too dangerous.
After the fall of Moammar al-Qadhafi the Libyan weapons ended up in the desert.
They are now in the hands of desperate African people that wanted to Europe but ulimately stranded.
Even the very nice Sahel countries like the peaceful Burkina Faso and Mali are getting hit by violence, it is very sad. ( was there in 1987 before the mobile phone and TV )
