The color is wonderful, but i fear for the health of this tree. Up here in Pa, that's a sad sight.

It would be a sad sight in Michigan too, or even in Colorado, Peter, but this is a cypress in Florida, and there's a couple weeks' period at this time of year when the cypress do this. It's pretty much an individual performance for each tree. This guy is in his color period. There's a much larger tree down the river a bit from here who's barely begun to turn. In another week he'll probably be very red. Along the Palatlakaha, nature is an enthusiastic performer.

Hi Russ,
You figure on going to photograph that bigger tree?

Here it is, from a few years ago. I may catch it at this stage this year too.

I think you are over-sharpening. I notice it in most of your ‘nature’ shots.
It makes the out of focus area’s look terrible and the sharpened area’s unnatural looking.

You could try to apply a healthy amount of LR sharpening mask. That will leave the OOF area untouched.

Thanks, Ivo. You're right. The last one -- the tree -- is over-sharpened. Unfortunately it happened years ago to a .jpeg image, and now I'm stuck with it. The first shot isn't over-sharpened. Those cypress spikes are that sharp. I barely touched it in PP.
