Saw this today ... will be nice not to have to import images to Camera Roll first ...

How much fun it will be to import hundreds or more 20+ megapixel raws onto an iPad.  ::)

If they actually go on the iPad it would be maddening.

I'm hoping the iPad is just a way to upload to the Adobe Cloud, a passthrough of sorts.

Yes, if users try to completely replicate their desktop/laptop workflow on a tablet, it could get interesting to say the least.

How I utilize my iPad Pro for location work on smaller volume assignments is I usually only import subsets of the shoot to the tablet rather than the entire card(s) ... then I make final selects, crop, rotate bump contrast, tone and color balance as needed ... caption and send to clients via FTP.

Unfortunately, I currently don't use Lr Mobile for those assignments due to three reasons: 1. The double import issue that may soon be rectified with this sneak peek update. 2. The lack of peer-to-peer syncing over LAN from Lr Mobile to Lr/LrClassic ... don't see the need to get bogged down in transferring images over hundreds, if not thousands of miles to share between devices than may be within very close proximity. 3. Batch FTP export from Lr Mobile like I have been doing in Lr Classic since v2 (and can do currently with a $6 iOS app).

So far, Adobe has come up with one item on the list ... hoping it won't take too many years to achieve the latter two items ... (yes, I understand they are niche items)

That’s why Apple offers up to 1TB on new iPads.

Not that I would, currently do that.  However, a quick upload of a few images, to process, and send to friends or post would be a strong consideration.....and no lugging of laptop!!

Wow, an entire TB.... And the time to put them on such a device, then get em off. No thanks, I'll stick with a tool like a dedicated Mac with far, far more space, speed and capabilities than a tablet.

Yes, for long term considerations or regular everyday use, I would never try and replace a capable laptop/desktop setup with a tablet of any storage size ... but ... there may be times when photographers are working away from such hardware where an iPad Pro in lieu of a laptop might be more than adequate interim solution when away from the office. In fact the last few generations of the top iPads have far more hardware computing horsepower and data throughput than many laptop/desktop configurations from just a few years ago.

Which is why some of us use more up to date hardware.  ;)
Look, some might want to use a Ford Pinto to haul a trailer, or even use a kitchen knife as a screw driver. But some of us have actual screw drivers.
If I need to partially edit images on location, there's a MacBook Pro for that.

Would help if you read and considered my second paragraph.

It is obvious that laptops/desktops are currently more capable.  That does not mean that this capability will be valuable to people traveling or in other circumstances.  Secondly, much of this, Apple iPad and Adobe cloud/mobile activity, is being done in preparation of future improved capability in hardware and WiFi.

MacBook 13” = 3.0 lbs
12.9” iPad = 1.4lbs

Both 1TB storage.

Questionable which i has faster processor....with the proprietary Apple processors being used.

"future improved capability": do ping us when it arrives and forgive some of us for not holding our breath waiting while using existing and appropriate tools until then. 😱

Both weighing more than some of my camera with lens, so what?

Expect when it's not the same. I've got a 8TB drive.

For you, questionable.
Go on, use the Tablet. Or the Frod Pinto, or the kitchen knife as a screwdriver. Other's will use the concept of: the right (BEST) tool for the right job.

Wow ... why so bitter, angry and nasty? I don't recall trying to convince you, or anyone for that matter, to use any tools you would feel incapable of performing any task you face. I merely pointed out a milestone in tablet capability that shows the device gaining similar functionality to other hardware. Use it. Don't use it. Don't really care one way or the other how you feel about it.

Yes, there are times when a tablet can be of much more convenience than a laptop ... regardless of storage capacity. For instance, when I'm working a night NFL or college football game and need to send clients photos from the sideline during a TV timeout to meet their deadline, a laptop would be extremely unweildy and annoying to use, where the tablet is more than adequate to get the job done quickly and conveniently. The requirements for this task is not often and I do use a MacBook Pro most often on location assignments, but in this instance the tablet IS the RIGHT, BEST tool for the job. If you are incapable, or worse, unwilling to grasp the concept that there is more than one viable solution, so be it.

There are times when even a lowly Frod Pinto (typo intentional for effect) may not be the ideal tool in the mind of others but can also be more than capable of accomplishing the task at hand.
