Somewhere, in the Middle of Nowhere - America
« on: July 29, 2019, 12:11:45 pm »

From last October.

Just driving along on the free-way, with the music turned up high and heading for a storm that looked like the world was coming to an end.

God I enjoyed that holiday.

Nice! Great graphics. Totally calls for pano format. Dave's roadtrip, I get it: comes from an isle in the middle of nowhere, so what do you do when visiting the vast expanse of the new world? You drive to nowhere... Well, I suppose that's what the roadtrip is meant to do, to teach you something about ourselves.

Yes, the tonality is really fine. Nicely done.

Very good. I would add a bit more drama to the clouds, darkening them. They look a bit bland.

Wow thanks everyone, I seemed to have nailed it with this one for you all  ;D

Rather than thank you all individually and answer all the questions one by one, I'll do it all in one big reply here.

- Where is it?

We were driving down from the Rocky Mountains National Park to Moab in a single day (320 miles or so) and quite a lot of it was through open flat featureless expanses along the I-70, so I genuinely don't know where we were, but I guess this was probably about two hours outside of Moab and near to a flyover junction to a dirt track to nowhere and is really more of a grab shot just standing by the side of the road. I just put on my 70/200 and hand holding the camera, I fired off a quick 5 or 6 shot pano, as I tried to capture the light before it was gone.

You know this view probably doesn't look like anything worth photographing normally I would assume, but with the storm clouds gathering and the direct light hitting these low (Salt?) hills, the whole scene began to look other wordly - the storm when it did hit us about 20 minutes later was terrific, hailstones like golf balls and buffeting winds that had the wife screaming and telling me to pull over and wait it out, it was wonderful  ;D

- Bland Clouds?

Not sure about the clouds looking bland Paulo, have you checked your contrast settings?

- Will I come back?

And yes I would love to come back to your beautiful country and do it all over again, but at the moment, the disposable income kitty is running on empty I'm afraid.

- Will I ever print it?

Then probably not unfortunately, as there would be no market for this type of image over here in the Highlands I assume and my walls are already full up to creaking point under the weight of my other stuff.

- Did I learn anything about myself on my 'Great American Road trip'?

You bet, I learnt that you guys have more than your fair share of amazing scenery, but that the US is soooo big and everything is soooo far apart, that the going to a place becomes just as good and important and enjoyable as getting there, in fact probably more so.

Thanks everyone, as once again you have made an old man very happy  :) :D ;D
