I have to wonder if some of the people with umbrellas are tourists or visitors.
I suspect those that have lived with Monsoons for any length of time fully expect to get soaked.
I enjoy these scenes of Goa a lot (inside, in my dry home.)

Eric, people who live in this type of climate are smart enough to walk around
with umbrellas.

Rajan, I like all three images.  I especially like the third.  Maybe it is my
monitor but on the third image I wish her face had less shadow.

Lovely kingfisher.

The greens are very vibrant to me eyes, but I take them as read.

Another gem (Undeterred) hidden in the blog.

You might think. But I can tell you that in western Oregon, known for its rain (though climate change may be putting an end to that reputation), natives tend to go umbrella-less. Raincoats maybe; umbrellas, not so much.

Back on topic. Another winning set, Rajan, shot and processed in your signature style.

Eric - these are very much the local villagers. And yes, it is hard to stay completely dry in these rainstorms. However, unlike Iceland Goa doesn't get "horizontal rain."

Thanks, Mark. You are right about her face being mostly in shadow. The background sky was brighter and given her darker texture, that it how the scene was rendered.

Scott - the monsoonal green is saturated to begin with. No saturation sliders were molested in Photoshop :-)

Fine work, Rajan. I don't know how it works in Goa, but in Southeast Asia the monsoons weren't continuous. If you picked your time you could run for it. The women mostly carried umbrellas but the men just got wet -- including me. When you're in uniform you can't very well carry an umbrella.

Russ,

I reckon all these different varieties of monsoon have their own special characteristics. The Indian Southwest Monsoon is continuous from June to mid-September on the southwest coast of India. It is critical to the life and economy of the region and has great cultural significance as well. Some of the planet's vital biodiversity hotspots lie in its path.

Rajan, it just struck me that on the subject of monsoons, if you have time on your hands you might be interested in this: http://www.russ-lewis.com/asia/Shorts/S-monsoonseason.html

Thanks, Russ. I’ll read it. Since I’m not in charge of redesigning the floor plan of the universe, I have plenty of time on my hands  :)

Yeah, me too, Rajan. Until it cools down I'm not going to be able to get out and do the street I love. In the meantime here I am on LuLa, while listening to Saint-Saëns "Le Cygne."

I'm sorry to hear that, Rajan.
