Trying LR Classic CC will damage my LR 6.14 install?
« on: June 02, 2019, 12:01:45 pm »

Hi everyone!

I'm still running LR 6.14 perpetual & PS CS5 <gasp>. I'm thinking of trying out a trial of the Adobe photo subscription, LR Classic CC and PS CC. Will installing CC mess up or interfere with my perpetual license app installs if I decide to not continue and cancel CC? I know I will have to update my LR 6.14 catalogue(s) but I will keep a backup(s) of pre-updated versions.

Thanks for any insight!

Installing LR and PS CC did not affect my LR5 and PS6 installations. They are still available to me. I just haven't used them since installing CC.

PC or Mac?

I seem to recall that installing a new version of Lightroom can co-exist with a previous version on the Mac but replaces the installation on a PC.  Make sure you still have the reinstall software, I suggest.

However, it won't screw your catalogue.  It creates a new one.  Again, backup first anyway is my advice.

I would set up a separate Adobe account to run the subscription because the subscription can interfere with your perpetually licensed apps.  When LR 6 was released, I wanted to run a perpetual version on my laptop, but I couldn’t run both licenses on the same account (I was also subscribed to the Photography Plan).

Keeping the two licenses separate would be the way to go, IMHO.
