Hope I tell it right 

There are "popular initiatives" directly from the citizens, who have to gather first 100'000 signatures over a period of 18 months to be valid

Under  "referendum" I understand when a decision of the Parliament goes back to the people, who then decide through vote.
- For a  change in the Constitution  the referendum is mandatory
- For a new law through the Parliament the referendum is possible (optional) (50'000 signatures gathered in a period of 100 days)

Every 4 years there are elections (Parliament)

I have not seen any posters yet for the upcoming local and European elections, it could be that most of the parties are a little embarrassed about the latter and local elections are mostly ignored here in the North where voting is a little tribal and has little to do with policies. I will have a look and post if I find any. Ken
