Problem connecting 2018 MacBook Pro to Canon printer
« on: March 25, 2019, 04:44:40 pm »

I have a Canon IPF8400. It worked great with my 2011 Macboo Pro. However, I just got a 2018 MacBook Pro. It's all USB-c ports, no USB. It seems that the Program printers don't like USB-c connections. The computer doesn't see the printer at all with a USB-c hub, but does see it occasionally with a straight USB-c to USB adapter. With the adapter, I can get it to print once in a while, but when it does it's excruciatingly slow. Canon tech support wasn't much help, saying the Program printers don't work with USB-c, but that some people have luck with adapters.

Has anyone else run into this problem?

Hey John,

Any luck connecting to it via a wired network?  How does it work with a USB2 style hub - yea, I know, talk about slowing things down :/  Possibly using a TB1/TB2 style dock also - I'm thinking of ways to put a hub chip in the middle that won't allow the faster speeds the Mac is trying to talk.

Let's see if anyone else has any ideas or experiences.

So run an ethernet cable from the printer to usb-c ethernet adapter?

So you're on wifi, is there a wired network anywhere near by?  Plug it into the LAN and then on your Mac go to Systems preferences - Printers & scanners - hit the + and it should find it on the network.

Solved. I used a wifi bridge and connected the printer with an ethernet cable.

Thanks for your suggestions.
