Really like the composition and subtle tones and colors in the dark areas. The blues in particular are a beautiful counterpoint to the floating branch and leaves and the orange foliage below it. However, on my monitor the light areas look washed out. Nevertheless, the image is quite striking.

Thanks all. And john, you're right: the tips of a couple of those leaves are blown. I should have dropped down one stop. As usual, hindsight is always 20-20.

I don't think that would have been possible as you would have lost the subtle but essential blues. Perhaps a bit of yanking the recovery sliders or even merely a colorcorrection of wash-out to something greenish is enough to safe the day?

Oscar, WTF are you doing to yourself?

All those very keen observations totally ruined by the huge EyeEm thing that, eventually, becomes all I can see in every photograph!

Dump it and move to weebly where you can get a free site from a wide range of styles and, if it becomes worth it, upgrade to a range of paying models modes that you might prefer at some stage.

Seriously, you are doing your good work damage.

Yes, you're correct. Merely added because of "popular" request, but I promise to do my picts better justice in the near future. Mea culpa until then..

Hi Oscar, Actually it would have been smart to make several exposures at various EVs. Might even have been worthwhile to set up a tripod and make a series of nine shots at one stop intervals as I sometimes do with HDR in mind. But what actually happened was that I saw the cluster floating, raised the camera, and made a snapshot. It wasn't until I got the image on my computer that I decided I liked it enough to keep it. Unfortunately, the tips of several leaves are totally blown. I could spend a couple hours in Photoshop and recover those tips by the usual means, but that time would be better spent looking for other stuff to shoot. As it was, I dragged the exposure down a long way in Camera Raw PP in order to take advantage of the deep colors in the water. I believe I'd still have had enough of the subtle blues if I'd exposed even two stops down. But we'll never know.
