Monarch Butterfly Chrysalis and Emergence
« on: October 04, 2018, 11:59:05 am »

Here is a short follow-up to one of my past postings (https://forum.luminous-landscape.com/index.php?topic=126479.msg1063305#msg1063305) about the Monarch Butterfly caterpillars that have been feeding on milkweed plants in my garden. Since then, quite a few of the caterpillars have metamorphosed into butterflies. One of the last caterpillars produced a chrysalis a week ago, and I thought some here might enjoy seeing the pupa's development and emerging butterfly.

Please feel free to comment, and thank you for viewing.

and the butterfly ready to take flight... FWIW: I'm told by someone far more versed in these things that this monarch is a male. (https://monarchbutterflygarden.net/female-or-male-monarch-butterfly-pictures/)

This is a splendid series, Bob.
Thanks for sharing it.

We have a fair number of milkweed plants in our yard, but I haven't seen any monarchs yet.

Like with sausages, it is sometimes best not to know how stuff came to be 😉

Hi Slobodan: Thanks for stopping by. The scientist in me simply loves to know how stuff came to be; that's where the fun is IMHO.
