How to create PDF Price list which can be sent to clients?
« on: September 26, 2018, 11:56:11 am »

Hi!
I would like to create an artistic looking PDF price list which I can send to new prospects. I would include samples of my wedding photography, information and send it via an email.
Question: How to do you create PDF Price list which can be sent to clients?
Thanks so much!

You can use any application that can "save as" or export a PDF, such as Microsoft Word. While true design/publishing software may give you more control and a more finished look, if you're not familiar with such programs the learning curve will be steep. You can still do quite a respectable job with simpler software.

if you can "save as pdf " from a document editing program or document layout program, then use that. If you need to edit the pdf, then try Nuance or similar with editing capabilities,

BTW, you double posted,  do delete one of theses posts.

Further, if you're on a Mac, ANY application that can print can also export a PDF:

If you use macOS, Apple reverse-engineered the PDF format years ago, so just about any app’s files can be saved as a PDF in the OS’s print dialogue; Pages would work well in this scenario.

It's been a public format for more than two decades. I don't think it required much "reverse engineering".

In Windows, too. Just choose as your printer the one with the name "Microsoft print to pdf."

For single-sided flyers and ads, I simply layout using Photoshop since it has great typesetting features such as optical spacing, kerning, leading, etc. that MS Word and similar word-processing apps lack. Yes, MS Word can be used to create nice layouts, but it's clunky, IMO, especially anyone who wants/needs to typeset well-crafted heads and type that won't resemble something done with a typewriter. Best of all, you have more control over your images, color space, etc. InDesign and Illustrator are also great tools for design but both come with fairly steep learning curves if you are not versed with the jargon or basic graphic design concepts.

In Photoshop, you can output your file directly as both PDF and jpg files quite easily.

For good tips on layout & design, take a look at https://www.bamagazine.com for great info on basic design. John McWade transitioned from the stoneages of design (cold type) into the world of digital starting with PageMaker 1.0, Serial number 2 or 3. He's a wiz and continues to share his wealth of knowledge!

Photoshop, which has the typesetting tools of most other Adobe graphic design programs is my tool of choice for simple brochures and ads that are photo-centric. For larger projects requiring more than a page or two I used InDesign for its more robust publishing tools.

Photoshop will output nicely into both PDF and jpeg formats very easily.

I have merged the two topics under this subject which started with identical posts.
