Nice ones, Russ.
Now if you took another of the fungus while spinning the camera like a yoyo, you might get something more like a typical John R.   ;)

Actually, I think one of John's lens elements flops against another one from time to time.

You found me out. Or like Granny, of the Beverly Hill Billies, I just jump around once I take a swig of elixir. Russ your area and subjects are so different from mine. But you do this all the time with your people images to great effect. It is nice when you find an ordinary subject and can use shallow depth of field to give it a new look, and a bokeh counterpoint, if you find an interesting background.

It seems my website really crunches the images and turns the darks to black. Oh well.

Hi John, Thanks for the pat on the back. Believe it or not, I appreciate more of your pictures than I normally let on. One problem with photographic abstracts -- to my mind at least -- is that I think you can do abstracts far more effectively with painting or drawing than you can with a camera. But, as I say, that's a personal opinion, and I might have trouble supporting it if it came right down to a discussion with examples. But yes, people are my favorite thing, and people abstracts usually fall short. But then, there's Picasso's "Frugal Repast" which distorts the people in a way that makes the whole thing immensely effective.

I wish I could do a daily walk as you do. But this summer in Florida has been hot enough to knock you down when you step outside the door. I normally do at least a weekly walk in the mall, but I'm hoping winter will set in with a vengeance down here -- soon!

This one is from a walk of two weeks ago. Been working on it. Almost trashed it, but now I think it turned out fine.

Thank you Eric.

And now for those who must brave the night and and cool winds.

The bold bw filter is back for more experimentation. Still have to try in urban environment on sunny day. Should make for some interesting high contrasty images.

Thanks Russ, I think. Does that mean you won't mind seeing this image of a photographer-friend caught in a whirlwind. And unlike me, he still managed to take a stable image...what with his new stabilized camera and all ;)

As I mentioned on abstract thread, I was experimenting with a bold bw filter that my Pentax camera has as feature. I think the honeymoon is over. It works by taking existing highlights and whites, and existing darks and blacks and pushing them to extremes. So when a subtle and soft highlight appears it turns it into a gaudy almost burned out highlight. Not for me. Although as you will see, it created one fine abstract that was suitable for such treatment because of extreme highlight on a white background. Came out like a slide. Expose for the highlight and let the darks go black.

JR

the suitable candidate

These were originally subtle highlights. I had to reduce the light to make them appear acceptable after using Bold filter.

reprise from abstract thread.

Gave up and tried a simple bw with IR treatment.

Those poor flowers. Fading away. But they'll be remembered in their fading beauty. Or is that camera motion beauty?

I will let you decide. This is the scene, all of them straight jpegs out of the camera, more or less. I gave up on Raw files. Thanks for noticing Russ.
