Careful when driving in Alberta
« on: August 02, 2018, 11:59:43 pm »

Tourist shot in head while driving near Morley, Alta., RCMP investigate road rage as motive. Not much is known about this case and identity of the shooter, but wild speculations abound about a possible road rage.
These are the known facts:

- Canadian civilians are not allowed to carry handguns
- criminals don't care about any laws and get their guns from south of the border. That includes mentally deranged and easily excitable road rage drivers
- on-duty police officers can carry handguns. You don't want to aggravate them on their drive home to a dinner
- some trigger-happy US tourists don't remove their handguns from the car glove box upon crossing the border

Your post should be titled "Careful when driving" or simply "Careful". I don't think Alberta is any less safe than other parts of Canada or the US, despite the factoids you listed.

That wouldn't be enough. One does not expect such things to happen in a gun-free, polite Canada, so a geo locator is important.

Exactly! In the summer months, you are more likely to encounter on Alberta highways grizzlies than angry men with a handgun.

Alberta RCMP have arrested and charged a 16-year-old boy in connection with the shooting of a German tourist on a rural highway west of Calgary earlier this month. The youth, a resident of the Stoney Nakoda First Nation, was arrested Friday without incident, police confirmed Tuesday. The teen has been charged with 14 criminal offences, including attempted murder, discharging a firearm with intent, and possession of a prohibited firearm.
